Kindergarten curriculum

These are the 22 grade-level skills CubbyEd teaches in kindergarten: Math, English Language Arts, Science, History, Catholic Religion. Each one gets lessons, practice and mastery checks. Parents and teachers choose the subjects and track progress.

Math

• Count to 10
  Recite and recognize numerals 0–10 in order.

• Name basic shapes
  Identify circle, square, triangle, rectangle.

• Position words
  Above, below, beside, next to, behind.
  Why it matters: Foundational spatial reasoning.

• Compare numbers up to 10
  Identify which of two numbers is greater or less.
  Why it matters: Underpins inequality and ordering.

• Add within 10
  Compose two groups whose sum is 10 or less.
  Why it matters: Foundation for all arithmetic.

• Subtract within 10
  Remove from a small group; understand take-away.
  Why it matters: Inverse of addition.

English Language Arts

• Letter-sound correspondence
  Identify and produce the common sound for each letter.
  Why it matters: Foundation of decoding.

  Decode short-vowel CVC words (cat, pen, dog).
  Why it matters: First reading skill.

• Weather patterns
  Observe, record, and compare sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, warm, and cool conditions over time.
  Why it matters: Daily observation skill.

History

• Family and community

  Why it matters: Civic identity formation.

  Who God is and what we believe at the kindergarten level.
  Why it matters: Faith seeks understanding of the living God.

  Why it matters: The liturgy makes present the mystery of Christ.
